Pico Cão Grande — a 663-metre volcanic plug rising dramatically from the jungle like a black thorn — is one of West Africa's most distinctive geological formations and accessible by hiking. The waters around both islands are pristine for snorkeling and diving; whale and dolphin sightings are common offshore.
